Our History
Foundations Prep School opened its doors in the fall of 2005, as a ministry of Brookdale Baptist Church. Two of its members, Joyce Ng and Cassie Saquing, began the school with just three classrooms, 16 children, and a dream to teach younger children to read, using a synthetic phonics approach (teaching letter sounds in a way that is fun and multi-sensory). Today, Foundations has grown to its full capacity with 99 children. It has incorporated additional elements into the curriculum, but the main goal of early reading remains intact: the foundation for all education to come!back to top
Our Philosophy
It is our philosophy that educational learning takes place through everyday interactions with peers, adults and even independent play-time. We strive to utilize those learning "windows" in your child's life by introducing basic reading skills and classroom structure much earlier than most childhood centers in our area. We never pressure the children to learn and have found that most children want to learn when it is presented in a fun and exciting way.
When he/she graduates from FPS, your child will:
- Become self-aware and independent in his/her daily activities.
- Learn to follow instructions and rules the first time when asked.
- Have a growing desire to learn and to become a self-educator.
- Learn to play with and cooperate with his/her peer group.
- Be prepared to enter first grade, reading smoothly, and well adjusted to a normal classroom routine.
- Miss his/her teachers and classroom aides tremendously!

Classes
Koalas (infant up to 1 yr.):
Emphasis is placed on object recognition, first words, music in motion, puzzles and indoor/outdoor playtime. Nap schedules are individualized for this class.
Lions (1-2 year olds):
This transition class is very busy! Language building and socialization are the main goals of this class. Classroom structure is introduced along with early reading letter sounds and songs. Arts/crafts and "centers" are also introduced.
Penguins (2-3 year olds):
Learning to share and further socialization takes place in this classroom. Emphasis is on early reading sounds and more defined classroom structure/routine. Chinese language learning is introduced at this age. These independent 2 year olds love their arts/crafts and center times.
Pandas (3-4 year olds):
A new world of reading opens up to our 3 year olds! They will begin to read simple words in a few short weeks. Topics covered include self and sensory awareness, group/team activities, arts/crafts and Chinese language and basic computer learning.
Giraffes (4-5 year olds):
Our 4 year olds will begin to read and decode simple sentences. Semi-structured math, science and handwriting will be introduced. Chinese language learning seems to be their favorite so far, along with crafts and center time.
Tigers (older 4's-5 year olds):
Our older 4's and 5 year olds will definitely be ready to move on to higher education by the end of this school year! Emphasis is placed on fluid reading, handwriting, math, science, and Chinese language learning. Geography, classic art, and holidays are readily enjoyed here!

Tigers are found in India, and are the only cats that are not afraid of water. They like to swim. These tigers live among mangrove trees. Mangroves have creative ways of keeping their roots from getting too wet. Beautiful moths, interesting crustaceans and pretty flowers live in the river habitats as well.
